TM-B

An electric bike built as a connected mobility device, combining multi-network connectivity and smart, app-integrated features.

Born as a Rivian spinout, ALSO set out to push e-bike mobility beyond traditional categories by building a deeply connected and software-driven platform. TM-B was conceived as far more than a conventional electric bike: a complex system designed to combine advanced connectivity, app-enabled features, security, and ongoing product evolution through software.

ALSO itself positions the bike as “powered by software,” underscoring a vision in which the riding experience continues to grow beyond the initial hardware.

What We Built

Focus developed the firmware for the bike’s connectivity platform, implementing a large portion of the product’s connected functionality and ensuring seamless interaction with key subsystems such as the display, power controllers, and the broader vehicle network, among others. This work included defining the firmware architecture needed to integrate the connectivity module into a complex system with multiple interconnected components and software-driven features.

Impact

The result was a connected e-bike platform where core functions such as security, connectivity, updates, and system coordination were built into the product from the ground up.

Integrated connectivity platform

BLE, Wi-Fi, LTE-M, GPS, UWB, and app connectivity unified into a single system.

Advanced vehicle communication

CAN and UDS protocols coordinated the bike’s electronic subsystems.

High-power USB-C charging

Power Delivery with Extended Power Range supporting up to 240 W.

Cloud-connected capabilities

AWS integration enabled remote services and connected product features.

This project combined vehicle-level communication, cloud connectivity, and subsystem integration in a single mobility product.
