Outrider
Embedded safety engineering for autonomous yard trucks, reinforcing full-stack assurance across a live, certification-bound platform.

Outrider develops autonomous electric yard trucks that move trailers within geo-fenced logistics facilities, replacing manual yard operations with fully automated vehicles. In environments where autonomous trucks operate alongside people and physical infrastructure, safety behavior is the baseline that makes the operation viable. As the platform scaled in complexity, Outrider needed experienced engineers who could embed directly into their teams and contribute across the full safety lifecycle, from refining requirements through implementation, verification, and validation on target hardware. The heterogeneity of the stack, spanning multiple software modules, hardware platforms, and robotics technologies, made finding engineers who could operate across all of it both critical and difficult.
Focus engineers worked directly as part of Outrider's cross-functional teams, contributing alongside their autonomy, hardware, and infrastructure staff across the full safety lifecycle. The work covered integrating safety constraints into core code, building and validating a multi-layer test suite spanning unit, hardware-in-the-loop, and system-level tests, and triaging complex issues across a heterogeneous ROS 2-based stack. Our team helped to maintain full traceability between safety requirements and their implementation at every layer, supporting certification readiness and long-term maintainability. The engagement ran from requirement definition through live deployment in geo-fenced yard operations, with our engineers acting as a seamless extension of the Outrider team.

Embedded Focus engineers helped Outrider sustain safety enforcement across a growing platform without slowing down delivery.
Focus engineers integrated into Outrider's teams without a ramp-up gap, contributing across safety-critical code, test infrastructure, and issue triage from day one across a complex, multi-platform stack.
Unit, hardware-in-the-loop, and system-level tests were developed and validated across a wide range of operating conditions, giving Outrider confidence in safety behavior before each deployment milestone.
Safety constraints were tracked from specification through implementation and verification at every layer, supporting certification readiness and keeping the system auditable as the platform continued to evolve.

When safety is non-negotiable and timelines are real, having engineers who can embed, contribute, and hold the bar from day one makes the difference.
